La Basic Chic: The Burger That Took Us to the Top of Burger Week 2024

In March 2024, La Pulpería made history by winning Burger Week Panama with its creation “La Basic Chic”—a burger born out of laughter, local flavor, and the desire to reimagine the essentials with attitude.

More than just a dish, La Basic Chic was a statement: proving that “basic” doesn’t mean boring—it means authentic. Guided by that idea, our kitchen and bar team set out to craft a recipe that reflects who we are: bold, flavorful, charismatic, and with a twist you didn’t see coming.

The burger featured juicy beef, golden buttery buns, bold cheese, house-made pickles, and a secret sauce that blended sweetness, tang, and a cheeky kick. The result? A wave of visits, posts, comments, and applause that quickly made La Pulpería a favorite among both the public and the judges.

But beyond the recognition, this win was a moment of collective pride.

It reflected the power of teamwork, the dedication of our staff, and the love of our neighborhood—both loyal regulars and curious newcomers—who helped turn it into a phenomenon.

Though La Basic Chic is no longer on the menu, its Burger Week run left a lasting mark. It was a tribute to what we've believed in from day one: food with identity, dishes that tell a story, and experiences that celebrate Panamanian culture in a way that’s honest and full of flavor.

SIX YEARS OF STORIES, FIRE, AND FLAVOR: HOW WE CELEBRATED LA PULPERIA’S ANNIVERSARY

Six years ago, we lit the stove for the first time in Casco Antiguo with one clear idea: to create a space where Panamanian cuisine could speak for itself—with flavor, storytelling, and streetwise soul.

In 2025, La Pulpería celebrated its sixth anniversary the way we know best: by sharing.

To mark the occasion, we hosted a two-day celebration that brought together the best of our local food community. On Thursday, we took over the house with a special collab featuring Amano and Mangle—two kindred kitchens that share our vision, our respect for local ingredients, and a vibe that flows effortlessly from plate to glass. The kitchen became a shared playground, and the bar, a meeting point for flavors that spoke the same language: our own.

On Friday, the party crossed the street to La Estrella, our sister bar, where the celebration continued. The night was all rhythm, cocktails with a story, and plenty of toasts. You could feel the energy at every table—familiar faces, loyal guests, curious newcomers, and the full team—on both sides of the bar—enjoying everything we’ve built together.

This anniversary wasn’t just a party. It was a thank you.
To those who’ve been with us from the start.
To those discovering us for the first time and feeling an instant connection.
To everyone who believes, like we do, that eating and drinking is also a way to tell the world who we are.

La Pulpería turns six with a full heart and a clear vision: to keep cooking with identity, taking bold steps with honesty, and celebrating every story that finds its way to our table.
